Both sides are gravure printed with offset printing shading. The front is a picture of the unity of all ethnic groups in a purple color. The back is the national emblem and the Chinese, Mongolian, Tibetan and Uighur characters of “People’s Bank of China, Five Yuan”. Sauce purple tone; hollow five-pointed star watermark. The banknote was issued on March 1, 1955, printed in the Soviet Union, and was payable only on April 15, 1964. After the conflict between China and the Soviet Union, a large number of counterfeit Soviet-made banknotes were discovered in Xinjiang. The banknotes ceased circulation on May 15, 1964. The number is preceded by three letters and followed by seven Arabic numerals. Ticket size is 165 × 75 mm (6.5 × 2.95 inches).
